Then I got a job preparing food. I didn't need much English — didn't I see my mother cutting up food a thousand times?

But when my manager looked at me sometimes, I thought maybe I wasn't doing things right.

Then I started 'Kitchen English' lessons and things got much better. Now I understand why I have to do things, and why Americans worry so much about things being clean. My boss tried to learn some Spanish, but I've learned a lot more English than he has Spanish! And I'm trying to learn more because there's a better job here that I might qualify for!"
